FAQs

What is Internet Radio?

Internet radio is similar to broadcast radio, but is only a digital audio service transmitted via the Internet. Broadcasting on the Internet is usually referred to as webcasting since it is not transmitted ‘Over the Air’. It can be heard on any computer, tablet, and most smart phones.

Is Pandora ‘Internet Radio’?

Yes and No. Yes, in that you can get it in your car a lot of the time. I lean towards no as it is not really radio, but simply a lot of categorized music – with no announcing. To me that is not Radio.

Can I request a Song?

Yes! Hit me up on Twitter @personalfavori1 – or email chris591@chrisjonesmedia.com.

Can I hear your station in my car?

Yes, but it takes a little effort. Personal Favorites is on Tune-In, which is an app in some vehicles. A lot of vehicles can Bluetooth audio from your phone. Tune in the station at chrisjonesradio.com, and have the audio ‘bluetoothing’. That will use data, of course. If you have unlimited data, that works well.

What makes your station so special?

It is a Passion. I program ‘Personal Favorites’ based on my love for radio, stemming from my 13 years in actual Radio Broadcasting. I am a music lover, and simply enjoy doing it, which I think shows in the personality and music variety you hear.

What Time Zone are you in?

Eastern. Our programming is based in the Eastern Time Zone, and I am based in Glens Falls, NY, USA.

What Kind of Music do you Play?

Mostly Pop and Rock music – a variety of my Personal Favorites from the 60s to Current.

Note: I do not play a song simply because it sold and charted well. There are many popular songs I do not play. My playlist is based only on what my ‘Personal Favorites’ are. Most of the time, they are/were popular songs.

This allows me to throw in a few extras I came to appreciate while doing college radio, and beyond.

I spotlight new artists as well, the unknowns who want to be knowns. My Personal Favorites!

Do you have any special programming?

Yes. The 70s at 7. One hour, sometimes more, of 70s music. 7am Eastern, 7 days a week.

..and the occasional Top Ten Countdown, which happens at 8am Eastern on Saturday. There’s not a top ten countdown every Saturday, but when upcoming, they are promoted on Twitter at @personafavori1. I do the countdowns myself, based only on my ‘Personal Favorites’ of whatever the Top Ten is about.

How do I start an Internet Radio station?

You 1st need to identify what you want to program on your station. You could host the station yourself, but that requires a lot of bandwidth should your station grow in listenership. If you are programming music, commercial music, you need to think about royalty fees. ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC are the Performing Rights Organizations you need to worry about, I think more than how you are going to stream your music. There is at least one company, Live365, that charges a monthly fee, and takes care of the licensing for you. Otherwise, to be legal, it’s an insane amount of money. Of course, If you want to talk or program the spoken word, there’s no worry about licensing.
